Social Skill Development

Managing Relationships for Career Success

Once you have reached the ranks of management, it is likely that you are in the company of your peers in terms of technical skills and business acumen.  What separates those who continue to move up from those who do not are:

  • business vision

  • social skill

Recent research indicates that social skill is more important to job performance and salary than are personality and cognitive ability.

While it takes superior visionary skills to reach the top, poor social skills will keep you close to the bottom.  While most organizations have plenty of room for those without great vision, they rarely have room for the socially clueless.

What is the most common career derailer?  Poor social skills.

Unfortunately, being socially clueless includes not knowing that you are.  Most people, however, know that they need help.

Emerging research is providing very helpful metrics and methods to enhance one's social skill.  Leveraging recent research findings with experience, we offer assistance in developing this critical competency.
